The time has finally come for Atomic Donkeys most ambitious brew to date. The recipe formulation of the brew soon to be known as AVLov has begun. So far we have narrowed it down to a Porter of some kind. Thinking possibly a raspberry porter. The star of this brew will be the Yohimbe. For those of you who don’t know what Yohimbe is, here is a brief description compliments of The National Institute of Health:
"Yohimbe is the name of an evergreen tree that is found in Zaire, Cameroon, and Gabon. The bark of yohimbe contains a chemical called yohimbine, which is used to make medicine."
"Yohimbe is used to arouse sexual excitement, for erectile dysfunction (ED), sexual problems caused by medications for depression called selective-serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and general sexual problems in both men and women. It is also used for athletic performance, weight loss, exhaustion, chest pain, high blood pressure, low blood pressure that occurs when standing up, diabetic nerve pain, and for depression along with certain other medications."
As you can see, this will be a very interesting beer. We will be brewing this weekend. The tests will start this evening when we purchase some porters from the local beverage mart and mix in different amounts of Yohimbe. It has a very distinct taste. We want to mash this somewhat but not totally. Also we need to see what amount is ideal as far as affects are concerned. Atomic Donkey will not release any brews that may harm or otherwise cause any discomfort to our patrons. So we will run several tests and continue our research into Yohimbine as we move along.
This brew has the potential to be very special. We are working hand in hand with Beni of Hourevolution.org on this creation. Check out his work. Amazing. Atomic Donkey staff hopes you are all well. CHEERS
The dark delicious brew known as Ryed Donkey RyedPA is now in bottles and come this Thursday we will be opening the first to see how the carbonation is going. The sample we got during bottling was great. The hops are about as well balanced as we have ever had with a slight citrusy flavor to them. The nose is hoppy with almost a slight sweetness. But this beer is far from sweet. As soon as we open the first one we will have tasting notes and pictures. Can't wait to get this one out there. CHEERS!!
