Black RyePA Recipe

The impression I get from this beer so far is very satisfying. Havent dry hopped yet and the balance is very good. But these next 3oz of Cascades are going to give it that citursy bite that we want. Will be providing for samples to many people.

Anyways, here is the recipe. Please make suggetions or ask questions. Love the help and input. Always learing.

12 Lb Pale Malt (2 Row)US (2 SRM)
3 Lb Rye Malt (4.7 SRM)
.75 LB Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2 SRM)
.75 LB Caramunich Malt (56 SRM)
.75 LB Carvienne Malt (SRM 22)
.63 LB Carafa III (525 SRM)
.5 LB Barley Flaked (1.7 SRM)
.5 LB Special B Malt (180 SRM)
.38 LB Chocolate Malt (350 SRM)

Mashed 20qts at 154F-153F for 60 mins. Drank some Atomic Donkey Milk Stout and cleaned some things and explored the brewery grounds.

Batch sparged with 5.5 gallons at 168F. (10 mins)

60 Min Boil

60 Mins left in boil 2oz Amarillo Gold
15 Mins left in boil 1oz Chinook
10 Mins left in boil 1oz Centennial
5 Mins left in boil 1oz Cascade
0 Mins left in boil 3oz Cascade

Dry hopping for 8 days with 3oz Cascades

Yeast is one package White Labs WLP001 (California Ale)

Estimated OG: 1.082

Ryed Donkey RyedPA Update




Dry hopping of the Ryed Donkey RyedPA is going as planned. It's tasting better every day. I have to stop sampling so we have something to bottle in a week. Things are a bit quiet on the brewing front right now. Our energy is being used in another very important task. Updates to come. CHEERS!

Black RyePA and Updates




It’s been a while since our last post. The Holidays are over and we are left with more time on our hands. What to do? I've got it! Lets brew, brew, and brew some more. It's time to move into the brew whenever possible mode. In that spirit we brewed a Black RyePA this past weekend. We were accompanied by a great friend on this brew. That will make it all that much better.

The brewing itself went off without any major problems. We were a little short on our mash water estimate. But some quickly heated water and we were right where we needed to be. Our OG was 1.078. It’s got a great dark color. We will begin dry hopping in about 10 days. We are using 3 oz of Cascades for this. The recipe will be up late tonight or early tomorrow. Be sure to check back.

In other AD news the Donkey Milk Stout has only gotten better. This beer is incredible. Our love for lactose is only getting stronger. The Atomically Red Irish Ale is not quite where we want it yet. The sweetness of the honey is just a touch too much. And we mean a touch. Because it’s so close we feel that given a month to mellow this brew will be spot on. Can’t wait till we're there.

I've also included some pictures of some recently purchased DogFish Head 120IPA. The beer that’s greatly responsible for our love of beer and brewing. They have been spotted at a number of stores in our area. Get them fast if you can find them. They never stick around long.
